____________________________________________________________________________

The High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP) is a state graduation requirement designed to support your career and college exploration throughout middle and high school. The HSBP helps connect career interests with your classes, and your classes with career training or college majors, helping you identify the steps needed to reach your postsecondary goals.

Students start the plan in 7th grade by taking a career and interest/skill inventory and using the results to inform their 8th grade class choices. HSBPs are revised each year (7th-12th grade) to align with changing interests and educational or career goals.

The High School and Beyond Plan is really a way for you to explore who you are, who you want to become, and how you can get there; the intent is to empower all students to prepare for and achieve their career and college dreams.

This year we are moving to a new platform – Schoolinks - to catalog your efforts and house your work in the HSBP, providing a consistent way for students to explore how your interests and skills fit different careers, set educational and career goals, determine classes to prepare for the future, even apply to college (not right away, but in the future).

HSBP Notes Grade 10 Student Activity Directions

On your computer . . .

If you have not yet completed the 9th grade tasks:

  • Return to the 9th grade completion directions
  • Begin the onboarding process once you have clicked on Schoolinks

If you have completed 9th grade tasks:

  • Click on the Student Icon on the left of the screen
  • Select Profile and Resume

Student Profile

This is the central, starting point for keeping a Student Profile and longer term, a building resume, a place to build as you learn about yourself, set goals, and grow throughout high school.

For today you will start with the “About Me” components of the Student Profile, and also work on other elements (My Story, Experience, Bragging Rights, Academics).

About Me

The “About Me” elements of the Student Profile include: Student headshot, Cover photo, Headline, Objective, other social media accounts. This is located at the top of the screen once you click on Profile and Resume.

For today, simply start with adding a preferred name if different from the one listed, any pronoun preferences that may be important to you, and write an objective.

Write an objective: [Your background/skills/years of experience] seeking a [specific job title or role] where [you can apply your qualifications] to [benefit the company or achieve a goal]

My Story

My Story starts with sections Post Secondary Goal, Career Goal, Career Cluster, College Goal, and Major/Training Goal. These will have been completed in 9th grade tasks.

Next, focus on completing My strengths, Things I'm proud of, and My interests and hobbies. For each section simply click on the blue Add button to see options to include for each; remember you always have the ability to write in your own ideas.

Experience

For the Experience section focus on adding information about any jobs, internships, and/or volunteer experiences you have had - even the slightest - add them in using the Add button. The same is true for extracurricular activities and leadership roles.

Bragging Rights

For the Bragging Rights follow the same process for adding information about Awards and achievements, My skills, and My language.

Academics

Finally, under Academics, include entries for Test Scores and Education.

With this one (and the others), don't stress over whether you have important or meaningful information to add right now; this is a work in progress over your four years of high school and you have the ability to return to it repeatedly this year and until graduation.
