KAMIAK WEEKLY UPDATE
October 25, 2024
FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Thank you!
On behalf of the thousands of young people who participated in Homecoming festivities, thank you to our community for the support. We enjoyed a spirited assembly that honored the virtues our students value in one another on the Homecoming Court. Thank you for joining all of us for ‘Friday Night Lights’ at Goddard. The football game was a nailbiter win with performances by the Show Band, Cheer, and Dulcineas Dance Team.

Our Homecoming Dance was a special event for the nearly thousand Knights who attended. We had a line forming a half hour before the doors opened and nearly everyone was still with us when the dance ended. Thank you to all who generously donated drinks and snacks for students to enjoy through the night. And, thank you to students, staff, parents, and community members who devoted countless hours of preparation to all our Homecoming festivities – I am proud of, and thankful for, all of you. 💜
First Quarter Progress & Sense of Belonging
This is the end of our seventh week of school – and about two weeks away from the end of first quarter. (Look for quarter one progress report grades to be available on November 26.) This week, we are checking with our students about a very important goal of ours related to students’ sense of belonging. We asked all our students if they have a ‘trusted adult’ (someone they can go to for help) here at school and outside of school. A significant part of students’ sense of belonging (and a protective factor that keeps young people safe) is whether or not they have someone they believe they can trust for help when they need it. Our goal is for every student at Kamiak to be able to identify at least one person here at Kamiak they can trust will help if they need it. If you haven’t already, encourage your child to think about who they would talk to at Kamiak if they felt they needed help.

Dress Code Reminder
Friendly reminder for Spirit Days etc.: If you dress in a way that disrupts a teacher’s ability to teach, or a student's ability to learn you will be asked to change or go home. This day is not meant to make fun of how other students' dress and what you wear should not be selected based on another student’s race, national origin, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, religion, or disability. Making fun of others by dressing a certain way violates our harassment, intimidation, and bullying policy. This is not a day to wear a costume of someone. And remember if you feel like you have to ask if it's "ok" to wear, you probably shouldn't wear it.”

  • Costumes must comply with the dress code (page 16 in the Student Handbook)
  • Costumes must not interfere school safety
  • Costumes must not obscure your face or a staff member’s ability to identify you
  • Students are not permitted to bring weapons or facsimiles
  • Costumes must not incorporate blood or gore

Fellow seniors Janey Ryu, Aida Park and Iris Cho also won events on our senior night.  Our divers went 1-2-3 with Kennedy Waterstraw placing first.  The meet was still in question during the second to last event where freshman Ella Jafari came from behind to win giving our final relay some breathing room.  The Knights won that event too sealing the deal.  Well done!

Varsity Girls Soccer won 1-0 on a special Senior night and JV won 4-1 against Glacier Peak.

Girls Volleyball lost to Glacier peak.

Boys Tennis - Seslar/ Kim Doubles Duo to State - Juniors Levi Seslar and Dylan Kim qualified for the spring state tennis tournament, going 5-1 in WESCO 4A district doubles tournament.
