Running Start

WHAT IS RUNNING START?

  • Running Start is a great way to earn college credits as a junior and/or senior in high school by attending community college instead of high school.
  • Running Start is for individuals who are READY for college. You must be self-motivated, organized, and willing to take on “adult” learning. (Parents will not have access to your grades or communicate with your college teachers).
  • Running Start is NOT free (there are some fees each quarter and you have to pay for books). The state will pay up to 21 credits per quarter (15 credits = full time) toward your tuition if you do full-time R.S.
  • If you qualify for free/reduced lunch, you may be able to waive some of your fees. Talk to the Running Start Office at your college for details.

4. Review and sign the KHS Running Start Contract

5. Meet with your Kamiak counselor to complete the RS Verification Form. You MUST bring a copy of the verification form to your meeting, filled out with student information (top section) and all signatures.

Please be sure to also bring your signed Running Start Contract, placement information from the college, and the college classes (course titles and codes) you have selected.

Note: Each college has advisors available to help you choose classes at the college and will help you achieve your goals of earning your Associate's Degree or Transfer Degree to other
programs/universities, if desired. Your high school counselor will assist you in monitoring your progress in earning your requirements for KHS graduation. Kamiak counselors cannot advise on AA/AS
degrees.

6. Students will submit their verification form to the college to finalize registration. Once the form is submitted, students will log in to their CTC Link account to sign-up for their chosen classes, once class
registration opens.

Once you're enrolled and registered for classes at RS you will be dropped from any Kamiak classes that you intend to take at the college. Remember you should not be visiting Kamiak's campus during
school hours unless you are attending classes.
