Attendance

  • Pre-Arranged Absence Form

    Hello Kamiak Families,

The state law has changed regarding absences and in accordance, the Mukilteo School District has updated their policies and procedures to be in compliance. "Excused absences are: illness, medical appointment, family emergency, religious or cultural event, court, post-secondary visitation or scholarship interview, absence directly related to foster care or homelessness status; absences related to the deployment of a parent/guardian in the military, disciplinary action; safety concerns; migrant status, or a prior approved activity that is consistent with district policy and mutually agreed upon by the principal/designee and the parent/guardian. The principal will determine if an absence meets the above criteria."

Please know that with policy change after the school year has begun, we will work with you on vacations - they are no longer excused. It is helpful to email KAAttendance@mukilteo.wednet.edu and verify for us that your child is accounted for and not skipping, but the absence can sit unexcused. It is only in the event that excessive unexcused absences accumulate, that this change in policy will have a negative impact. School is a very interactive and cooperative environment and any absence, excused or unexcused, can impact a student's grades because of the nature of instruction in high schools today.

To notify us of an upcoming absence, please download and complete this form, including obtaining signatures from each teacher, and return to the attendance office.  Once returned, it will be reviewed by the principal. We look forward to navigating through this change of the state law with you to ensure that your student is finding success in school. There will be other communications shared in the future regarding attendance procedures.

    Thank you,
    Dean of Students

  • I’m glad you asked! There are NO senior skip days (although they are rumored throughout the year!).

Students who are absent and are determined to be unexcused lose any opportunity for make‐up, including exams.

The Mukilteo School District provides for an abundance of early release days and holiday breaks spread throughout the school year – skip days are simply not worth the risk to a student’s academic record.
