KAMIAK WEEKLY UPDATE

June 12, 2026

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Knight Community,

On Friday evening, about 600 Kamiak Knights will make the formal transition from students to alumni. It’s an exciting time for all involved.
I have enjoyed spending time with the parents and families of these graduates. Your enthusiastic joy for your children is visible. Thank you so much for years of support for your children.

Like many years, this year’s seniors seem to have stumbled into June before realizing that high school is coming to an end. It has been fun experiencing their senior events with them as they came to fully appreciate what is happening. At last week’s prom, the seniors enjoyed a spectacular event with music, food, lights, dancing, and a great time with friends. The dance floor was still full when the final song played. The blanket ceremony for our students with tribal connections was beautiful and poignant – elders in one generation honoring and calling the next generation forward. The whole school gathered for our traditional Farewell Assembly. Students sat in the bleacher sections associated with their next year’s class. The class of 2027 is already waiting to step into their senior year. The senior breakfast was a lovely function with music, speakers, and a special message from Mr. Stelling upon his retirement. Hundreds of our students walked familiar elementary and middle school hallways to the adulation and pride of younger students at their Clap Outs.

By the time they turn their tassels at commencement, this graduating Class of 2026 will have been properly recognized and celebrated. I’ll be happy to welcome them as new members of the proud alumni of Kamiak High School.

Congratulations, families, friends, educators and especially our graduates on the occasion of this graduation.

Summer Reading Assignments

Students registered for English II Honors (10th grade), AP Language and Composition (11th /12th), and AP Literature and Composition (11th /12th) in the fall must complete a summer reading assignment. Kamiak Lady Knights Wrestling Summer Camp

The Kamiak Lady Knights Wrestling program is excited to announce our first ever 2026 Girls Wrestling Summer Camp, taking place June 30th – July 2nd.

Please note: while this camp is being hosted and run by the Kamiak Lady Knights Wrestling program, it will be held at the MARINER High School Wrestling Room due to fire alarm system updates currently taking place at Kamiak High School this summer.

This girls-only camp is specifically designed to welcome and encourage girls who are new to wrestling or just getting started in the sport. No experience is necessary. Our goal is to create a fun, supportive, and positive environment where athletes can learn the basics of wrestling, build confidence, and discover how strong and capable they can be.

The camp will be led by:
• Ally De La Cruz – Kamiak Alumni & 2017 Girls State Champion
• Sophie Averill – Woodinville High School Head Coach
• Kamiak Lady Knights Wrestling Coaches assisting with supervision and coaching throughout camp

At Kamiak Lady Knights Wrestling, we believe wrestling should build more than athletes. We focus on helping girls grow in confidence, resilience, leadership, and self-belief both on and off the mat. Our coaching philosophy emphasizes encouragement, effort, teamwork, and creating a welcoming environment where every athlete can succeed at their own pace.

This camp is a great opportunity for girls to:
• Learn wrestling basics in a beginner-friendly environment
• Build confidence and athletic skills
• Meet new friends and teammates
• Learn from successful female wrestlers and coaches
• Discover the sport of girls wrestling in a supportive atmosphere

Camp Information:
• Cost: $150 per wrestler
• Dates: June 30th, July 1st, July 2nd
