Every year, thousands of children are transported to and from school by school bus. The State of Washington requires all school districts to establish written policies and procedures addressing school bus safety and emergency evacuation drills.

Emergency exit drills are required throughout the school year at designated times, as outlined in 

WAC 392-145-080. These drills provide students with the opportunity to learn and practice how to safely exit a school bus in the event of an emergency.

School bus rules and safety procedures are being provided to you and your students so that you may review them together and help ensure that everyone understands the expectations for safe behavior while riding the bus.

We’re excited to offer activity bus transportation again this year for students participating in after-school athletics, clubs, and other extracurricular programs. 

Each middle and high school will have one activity bus that operates nightly. Our bus will leave school at 3:55PM, Monday through Thursday. This bus route is provided to ensure that students participating in after school extended learning and enrichment activities have access to convenient school transportation home. 

This year, activity bus routes have been updated to run more like transit routes, making planned stops—including stops at the elementary schools they serve—to help cover more areas efficiently. Route times are relatively close to, or even shorter than, what students experienced last year.

Student drop off and pick up is only permitted at the south side entrance towards the PAC (parallel to Silver lot) and at the north side entrance in the White Lot by the bus loop (reminder: cars are NOT allowed to drop off in the bus loop).

Absences: To excuse an absence, we must hear from a parent within 48hours of the absence and must include the following. Incomplete submissions may delay the processing of your request, to ensure a timely and accurate process, please include the following information in all methods of communication:

The following reasons for absence/late arrival/early departure are authorized for excusal per District Policy:

Late Arrivals: Any student arrival after 7:20AM must report to the Attendance Office to check in before going to class, failure to do so may result in corrective action. Late arrivals will remain as unexcused until contact from a parent/guardian is received.

Early Dismissals: Any/All early dismissals require advances notice from a parent/guardian at least one (1) day prior to the early dismissal request. An early dismissal slip will be delivered to your student, allowing them to be released 10 minutes prior to your requested time. This additional time allows for your student to travel from class to the Attendance Office to sign out at the Attendance Office before leaving campus in accordance with district policies. If your student returns to school later the same day, they must sign back in at the Attendance Office before resuming classes to ensure their record is updated accordingly. Failure to follow this procedure may result in corrective actions.

Attendance Challenge Form: If a student believes they were incorrectly marked absent or tardy, they must first address the concern directly with their teacher. The Attendance Office cannot make any changes without teacher authorization. Students may pick up an Attendance Challenge Form from our office. Once the form is completed and signed by the appropriate teacher(s), it should be returned to the Attendance Office for review. Please note: Arrivals to class more than 10 minutes late are considered a class absence.

Illness at School: If a student begins to feel ill during the school day, they must report to the Health Room. For guidance on when to keep your student home and when they are permitted to return to school following illness, please refer to the Mukilteo School District’s guidelines here: [Mukilteo School District - When Your Student is Sick]

Pre-Arranged Absences (of any length): Pre-Arranged Absence Forms are required for any absence of any length of duration that does not fall within the authorized reasons for excused absences. The principal (or designee) may excuse up to five (5) school days for a pre-arranged absence, per student each school year. Once the five days have been used, the remaining requested days will be considered “unexcused” unless otherwise approved by the principal or designee. Pre-Arranged Absence Forms are to be completed and turned in one (1) week before the planned absence. A link to that form is available here for your convenience or may be picked up in the Attendance office on the second floor.

Varsity Boys Football lost to Mount Baker

Girls Soccer against Meadowdale- JV won 1-0 and Varsity won 2-0

Cross country- Varsity boys finished 4th behind top finishes from Jax Walker and Brandon Smith. Varsity Girls finished 6th, led by Serena Raaum and Grace Gilson.

Boys Tennis against Arlington- JV won 7-0 and Varsity won 6-1

Girls C-Team Soccer against Mount Vernon HS- won 7-0 with Goals coming from Cloe Z., Deanna T., Mia A., Ella, R., Olivia N. and 2 goals from Virginia G. Permelia, Serene and Ella provided the assists. Well done Girls!

Boys C-Team Football lost to Shorecrest

Girls Volleyball against Bothell- C-Team and JV both lost, but Varsity came out with a 3-0 win

Girls Soccer against Mountlake Terrace- JV won 5-0 with goals from Sheila Alonso-Soto, 2 by Ava Richter and 2 by Syniet Biniam. Assists by Brianna Banos-Alvarado, 2 by Syniet Biniam and 2 by Mallory Crowell. Varsity tied 1-1 with a goal from Ella Bentall assisted by Stella VanderVeen.

Girls C-Team Soccer lost to Lake Stevens

Boys Tennis against Lake Stevens- JV lost and Varsity won 4-3

Cross country- Johnny Bai, Serena Raaum and Brandon Smith won the individual titles racing against Shorecrest and Meadowdale.  The girls' and boys' JV teams won the team races while the varsity boys were edged out by Meadowdale.  Grace Gilson, Michael Dolan, and Caleb Crim also ran well for the team.

At Kamiak, we offer a variety of clubs, activities, and academic support programs designed to meet diverse interests and help you succeed. Click the button below to see all the opportunities available, including when and where to join!

This week, our Counseling Team met with 12th grade students for guidance lesson activities. In our lessons, we discussed students’ current academic status (transcripts), and planning for post-high school opportunities. Copies of the information will be available on our Kamiak website next week. If you would like translated versions of the information, please reach out to your students’ school counselor. 

 

Off-campus Running Start students were not required to attend these lessons, and we will send a similar message to your student’s school email with the materials. Students can contact their school counselor if they would like to talk through the information or identify next steps for their individual plans. 

 

As a reminder, if your student is still working on a plan for after high school or is interested in exploring different pathways, please feel free to encourage them to meet with our Career and College Counselor, Mrs. Jenelle Huber. Students can also visit the Kamiak website to explore available resources. 

Academic Coaches - The Academic Coach program provides students with the opportunity to receive peer tutoring from knowledgeable upper-level students in a wide range of subjects offered at Kamiak. Tutoring sessions are typically held in the Kamiak library after school, (other times may be available), depending on the tutor). Led by our librarian, Ms. Schwenn, the program is designed to support students in enhancing their academic skills, reinforcing subject knowledge, and encouraging students to build confidence in themselves. Sign-up information will be available to students soon. 

 

Teacher Office Hours – Teachers may offer office hours before or after school to provide students with additional academic support. Office hours are a great opportunity to ask questions and get individualized assistance with assignments and projects. Each teacher’s availability varies, and students and parents should reach out to the specific subject teacher to inquire about scheduling and availability.

 

Our Kamiak Library is also open before school, during lunches, and after school for students who just need a quiet study space and/or access to resources. 

 

As a reminder, Kamiak offers an activity bus after school, Monday through Thursday at 4:00pm, for students who stay for tutoring or academic support. Students should pick up a red activity bus pass from the staff member supervising them after school. 

We know there are many seniors who are starting to complete college applications this fall. If your students is applying to schools through The Common Application, please have them meet with their counselor at least 3-weeks in advance of their first deadline to confirm we have everything we need to complete our part of their application. 

 

If your student is applying to schools that require teacher or counselor letters of recommendation, we highly encourage them to meet with recommenders as far in advance of their deadlines as possible (minimum 2 weeks), during available office hours or appointment. Students should contact their recommenders early to confirm they are available to write a recommendation. 

 

Lastly, counselors and teachers do not work evenings, weekends, or during holiday breaks. It is your student’s responsibility to make sure our staff have everything we need in advance so we can meet deadlines and support them in the process. If your student is unsure if they have taken all necessary steps, they can reach out to their school counselor or Mrs. Huber to confirm they are on track. We are here to help!

Does your 12th grade student still have Fine Arts and/or World Language credits needed for graduation? If yes, please read the message below. If your student is unsure, please have them reach out to their counselor to review a copy of their transcript.

 

Students can waive up to 1.0 Fine Arts credit and up to 2.0 World Language credits for graduation through their Personalized Pathway Requirement (PPR). The Personalized Pathway allows for certain credits in high school to be “flexible” credits to give students more choice in pursuing their interests, based around their post-high school goals. 

 

If your student is planning to waive any remaining Fine Arts and/or World Language credits, they need to meet with their school counselor as soon as possible to complete the PPR waiver form. Students are considered not on track for graduation unless they have met with their counselor to confirm a plan for all remaining credits. Forms can be found in the Counseling Office and students should plan to submit any high school waivers by Tuesday, October 15th.

Talking with teens about substances can feel challenging, but ongoing, open conversations can make a meaningful difference. The resources below offer families current information about youth substance use, signs that may indicate a concern, and practical strategies for prevention. You’ll also find discussion questions and resources to help you approach these topics, build protective factors such as strong relationships and healthy coping skills, and connect with additional support when needed.

The Kamiak Athletic Booster Club (KABC) is a group of parents of current and former athletes who work together to financially support student-athletes at Kamiak. Guided by our by-laws and mission, we raise and manage funds, promote school spirit, assist the Athletic Department, and advocate for athletics in our community. KABC provides funding across a wide range of sports teams and, through team fundraising, scholarships, and support for equipment, training, and facilities, we strive to strengthen the connection between academics and athletics while fostering pride, camaraderie, and opportunities for all Kamiak athletes.

While many school programs are just getting underway, Show Band actually begins during summer break, and we are already heading into our full competition season! 😊

Our biggest hosted event and fundraiser of the season, Music In Motion, is coming up on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 9:30 AM–6:30 PM at Goddard Stadium.

Kamiak will be hosting high school marching/show bands from around the region for a full day of performances and competition. It’s a really fun event, and we would LOVE to invite Kamiak students, families, staff, and our community to come out, cheer on the bands, and support Kamiak Show Band.
