KAMIAK WEEKLY UPDATE

October 30, 2026

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Knight Students and Families –

As of Friday (November 6th) we will be one-quarter of the way through the 2026-27 school year – time flies!

This is a week there are important steps students and families can take that ensure the most and best success:
  • For our youngest students, it’s important to fully understand that each day of high school matters. The class of 2030 (like all the older classes) needs to pass every class all four years in order to earn a high school diploma and graduate on-time with their friends. Check in with one another and talk about how things are going.
  • For all our students, we need families and students to spend a few minutes looking at current grades in Qmlativ and Schoology. Our students can show their families grades for all their classes. The first quarter grade is probably best viewed as a progress report. (The grade that shows up on transcripts is from the end of the semester.) Now is the right time to make sure you are seeing the progress you are seeking.
  • For our seniors planning steps after high school, this is a good time to talk about applying for financial aid (FAFSA and WAFSA). College may or may not be something a senior is considering today…but I have worked with countless seniors who have changed their minds. Whether or not a senior is planning on college, spending time talking about financial aid is a good idea.

Lastly, I hope you and your family will consider joining us for the varsity volleyball game on Tuesday, November 3rd. The varsity team will be competing for the WESCO district title at 7PM in the Main Gym. Volleyball events are always exciting – this game is going to be extra special. As the kids (and my grandparents) say, ‘Be there or be square.’

A grid of school portraits displays eight students with their names and grade levels listed underneath.

American Mathematics Competition ✖️➕➖➗🟰

The AMC will be held Thursday November 5 in the library from 2-4pm. Sign up and pay for your spot either in bookkeeping or through the Kamiak website until October 30. See a Math Team member or Mrs. Baldridge in E123 for more information. https://maa.org/amcreg/

Why take the AMC? You should take the AMC test to showcase mathematical talent for college admissions, qualify for prestigious follow-up competitions like the AIME, develop critical problem-solving skills, and deepen interest in STEM fields. High scores on the AMC can strengthen applications to selective universities, provide opportunities for scholarships, and serve as a valuable indicator of a student's potential, especially in STEM-focused programs.

Academic Coaching

Academic Coaches are available to help students in virtually all subject areas Monday through Thursday from 2:00PM-3:00PM in the Kamiak library. Students can drop by the Study Zone (no appointment necessary) for a quiet place to work on assignments with a coach nearby to help. Students who would benefit from individual help in a specific subject can request a 1-on-1 coach to work with them weekly (the request form is in the Kamiak Library Schoology course).

All coaches are hand selected for their academic successes at Kamiak, so you can rest assured that your student will get the help they need to thrive academically.

Contact our librarian, Mrs. Schwenn, with questions.

Kamiak Lady Knights Wrestling: Two Ways to Join. One Team

Find Your People. Build Friendships that Last. Some of the best parts of joining a team happen between the big moments: laughing with a teammate at practice, talking over a meal after a tournament, or realizing someone you barely knew a few weeks ago has become a close friend.

That’s what we want you to find in Lady Knights Wrestling—a place to belong and friendships that can last long after high school.

Our wrestlers support one another. When a new wrestler steps onto the mat, teammates gather beside it to cheer her on. Through shared challenges, everyday encouragement, and time spent together, you get to know one another—and give one another reasons to keep showing up.

We make room for fun together, too. We’ve enjoyed team movie nights in past seasons, and this year we’re planning meals together after tournaments. Sometimes a stop for chicken and fries becomes the part of the day everyone remembers.

You don’t have to bring a friend to find one here. Whether you already know someone on the team or would be walking in on your own, we’d love to meet you.

Join us November 4, from 2:15–3:10 p.m., in the small wrestling room (Yoga Room) for our preseason meeting. Meet the coaches, ask questions, and learn about becoming a Lady Knight. Attending doesn’t commit you to joining.

The season starts November 16. Your next close friendship could start here.

Can’t attend? Contact Coach Baldwin to learn more.  Baldwinjh@mukilteo.wednet.edu

Lady Knights Wrestling Open Conditioning 🏋️‍♀️

Open Conditioning, sponsored by Lady Knights Wrestling, continues through Thursday, November 12. These workouts are open to all Kamiak students. You do not need to be a wrestler or plan to join the wrestling team to participate. Students looking to improve their strength, conditioning, and overall fitness are encouraged to attend.

📅 Days: Tuesday and Thursday
⏰ Time: 6:00–7:30 PM
📍 Location: Kamiak Weight Room

What to Bring
  • Water bottle
  • Closed toe Athletic shoes
  • Workout clothes you can move in

A willingness to work hard and get better. No wrestling experience or wrestling equipment is required.

Show up. Work hard. Get better.

COUNSELING CORNER

Running Start: Winter Quarter Registration

If your student is currently enrolled in Running Start, they should be planning to meet with their counselor for winter quarter registration. To register for classes, your student will need to complete the quarterly verification form and have it signed off by their Kamiak School Counselor. The verification form is available on the college website and the Running Start page of the Kamiak website (under the CCRC section). All directions and required steps for this process were sent to student’s school outlook emails this month. Please have your student review all directions before meeting with their counselor.

Sno-Isle Skill Center Registration Opens Soon!

The Sno-Isle Tech Skill Center application opens on Monday, November 9th at 12:00pm for the 2027-2028 school year. 10th and 11th grade students are eligible to apply. Interested students should visit the Sno-Isle Tech website in advance to create an account (sc.mukilteoschools.org/). We highly recommend students submit their application as soon as registration opens since programs are first come, first served. If your student is considering applying, please have them reach out to their school counselor to confirm the program will fit into their graduation plan.

Additionally, Sno-Isle will have an Open House on Saturday, November 7th from 10am-1pm. We encourage families to attend to learn more about available opportunities.

10th Grade Lessons

Last week, our Counseling team met with 10th grade students for classroom lessons to discuss their transcripts and academic planning, share resources for post-high school pathways, and begin their High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP) activities. The HSBP is a state-mandated graduation requirement for all students, beginning in middle school, that guides them in planning for post-high school education, training, and careers.

Whether your student is in the planning stages or has no idea where to start, we encourage them to meet with our Career and College Counselor, Ms. Jenelle Huber to learn more about opportunities for after high school. Students can also connect with our HSBP Specialist, Ms. Theresa Cline, for help completing their 11th grade tasks. Students can visit Ms. Cline and Ms. Huber in our College and Career Readiness Center (Counseling Office).

School Counselors are designated by student’s last name:
