KAMIAK WEEKLY UPDATE

November 6, 2026

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

This week I have been in classrooms watching some amazing teaching and learning.

Something I saw this week made me especially proud. Two students were in their math class together when the teacher released them to work on a complex problem together. I was inspired by how they navigated agreeing and disagreeing with one another. They challenged each other to show their thinking process. They were respectful and curious. They were thankful when the other helped them see a mistake that was made. It was excellent collaboration – working professionals could learn from this kind of teamwork.

To everyone who makes intentional effort toward being a good collaborative teammate, I want you to know that I am thankful for your work. The way you work with one another makes a difference for yourself and for others – thank you!

Lady Knights Wrestling 🤼‍♀️

You Might Surprise Yourself. The first time you learn a move, it feels unfamiliar. Then you practice. You ask questions. You try again. One day, you realize you can do something that once felt impossible. That’s how confidence grows—by giving yourself a chance to do something difficult.

Lady Knights Wrestling gives you opportunities to build strength, learn new skills, and discover how you respond to a challenge. Progress might mean finishing a tough practice, finally understanding a technique, or stepping onto the mat for your first match. Those moments belong to you—and they can change what you believe you’re capable of.

You don’t need experience or confidence to begin. Our coaches will teach you, and your teammates will grow alongside you. Knights and Squires offer different commitment levels, so you can discuss the option that fits your goals and circumstances.

Ready to find out what you can do? The season starts November 16.

Sign up through Mukilteo FINAL FORMS:
Have your parent or guardian sign in to your family’s account. New families will need to create an account.
Select Girls Wrestling under the available winter sports for your student. Complete all required parent/guardian and student forms and signatures. Make sure your sports physical is current and on file. Check with the athletic office about any outstanding clearance requirements before practice.

Need help? Follow the registration instructions. Register now so there’s time to complete your clearance before the first day. Questions about wrestling or choosing Knights or Squires? Contact Coach Baldwin.

Give yourself the chance to discover a stronger, more confident you.

Interested in Winter Sports? 🏀🤼‍♀️🏊‍♂️

For all students interested in Winter Sports, athletic registration is due by Wednesday, November 11.
Please log into FINAL FORMS and sign all forms and make sure you have a Valid Physical that goes THROUGH the entire season. If it expires mid-season, you will not be clear to participate day one.

COUNSELING CORNER

College Applications and Deadlines

If your student is in the process of applying to colleges, please have them meet with their counselor as soon as possible if they have not done so already. Counselors may need to submit a School Report, recommendation letter, or other information to support your student. We often have students invite us to submit application materials just before or on the day of a deadline and this makes it almost impossible for us to fulfill these requests on time. Counselors and teachers do not work evenings, weekends, or during holiday breaks and it is your student’s responsibility to make sure our staff have everything we need in advance to support them in the process. If your student is unsure if they have taken all necessary steps, they can reach out to their school counselor or Mrs. Huber to confirm they are on track. We are here to help!

Sno-Isle Skill Center Registration Begins Monday!

The Sno-Isle Tech Skill Center application opens on Monday, November 9th at 12:00pm for the 2027-2028 school year. 10th and 11th grade students are eligible to apply. Interested students should visit the Sno-Isle Tech website in advance to create an account (sc.mukilteoschools.org/). We highly recommend students submit their application as soon as registration opens since programs are first come, first served. If your student is considering applying, please have them reach out to their school counselor to confirm the program will fit into their graduation plan.

Additionally, Sno-Isle will have an Open House on Saturday, November 7th from 10am-1pm. We encourage families to attend to learn more about available opportunities.

Life Skills Spotlight

High school is about more than grades and graduation requirements. It’s also the time when students build the everyday skills, they will rely on in their adult life. Each month, we’ll highlight practical skills worth practicing at home. Some will feel small and maybe you believe your child already do these, but we know that encouraging practice both at home and at school better prepares students for the real world. Our hope is that these topics spark a conversation, a quick practice session, or simply a moment of noticing what your teen can already do well.

Writing a Professional Email and Leaving a Voicemail

Few things shape a first impression faster than how a person communicates when they need something from a teacher, coach, employer, or other professional. Yet many teens have never written an email with a subject, greeting, and a clear request, and plenty have never left a voicemail at all. This month, consider having your student practice both.

For email, the basics are a specific subject line, a polite greeting using the person’s name and title, two or three sentences stating who they are and what they need, a thank-you, and a sign-off with their full name. We often see students writing emails as if they are texting a friend, which can lead to misunderstandings or make the intended message less effective.

For voicemail, encourage them to state their name clearly, say why they’re calling, leave a callback number at a slow pace, and repeat it once before hanging up.

A low-stakes way to practice is to have your teen send you an email requesting something (asking to attend an activity, a ride somewhere, etc.) and leave you a voicemail you can listen to together. The goal isn’t perfection; it’s building the confidence to reach out with clarity and courtesy, a skill that will serve them well during and after high school.
