KAMIAK WEEKLY UPDATE

June 6, 2025

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

The other night, I had the opportunity to visit with families of our graduating seniors at an event. It was the start of ‘graduation season’ for us at Kamiak. It is always touching seeing the pride and joy our families and friends shower on our soon-to-be graduates. Indeed, it is part of the magic of the high school experience.

On behalf of the staff and the graduating Class of 2025, we want to invite you to celebrate their Commencement at 8:00pm on Friday, June 13th, at the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett. Whether you have a particular graduate to celebrate or you want to be there to cheer for the whole class, you are our welcomed guest.

If you want to join us, scroll to the Senior section for more information.

Honoring Pride Month

We see and welcome students, staff and family members who identify as LGBTQ+. Feeling included and supported is one of the most critical elements of well-being and we welcome ALL students, staff and families. Pride Month is celebrated each year in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, which was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.

ATHLETICS

Kamiak Spring/Summer Athletic-Activity Period June 2nd--July 31st

The WIAA rules allow for our coaches to work directly with our incoming and returning student-athletes during the Spring/Summer time period: June 2nd-July 31st

Coaches that will be offering optional school and booster sponsored activities will be sending out information soon specific to their programs, but all incoming and current Kamiak student-athletes must have their parent fill out the below Google form to be cleared into the Spring/Summer season for practices, camps, open gyms, contests, open conditioning, etc.

Here is the Spring/Summer Athletic-Activity parent permission form link:

We will also post the link on our Athletic Website here:

Our Athletic website is also a great place to find out more about our Athletic programs, coaches contact information, and tryout information as we get closer to the next school year.

We’re excited about the important work that will happen this Spring and Summer that will launch us into a great 25-26 school year for Kamiak Athletics.

Join Kamiak Girls Wrestling 🤼‍♀️

Hello Kamiak Athletes,

Are you looking for a sport that will build confidence, toughness, and grit—while surrounding you with a team that feels like family? If so, Kamiak Girls Wrestling wants you.

All necessary equipment is provided, with one exception: wrestlers will need their own wrestling shoes. However, if cost is a concern, I have ways to cover shoes for anyone who needs help—just let me know privately and we’ll make it work.

Whether you're a seasoned competitor or have never tried wrestling in your life, there's a place for you on our team. No experience is required—just a willingness to learn, work hard, and support each other. I can teach anyone to wrestle.

Wrestling is a no-cut sport, which means everyone is welcome. If you’re willing to show up and try, you have a spot on our team.

Since 2018, Kamiak has been one of the pioneers in supporting girls wrestling in Washington. We were one of the first schools in the state to establish a dedicated girls wrestling team, and we’ve grown steadily each year. We also host one of the best and longest-running girls tournaments in the state—the Lady Knights Invitational, now entering its 8th year.

💥 This year, we’re taking another big step forward:

For the first time, our practices will be completely separate from the boys, giving us our own space and time to train.

We’ll also be competing in full girls dual meets throughout the season—something we’ve fought hard to make happen.

Our season begins November 17, 2025, with registration opening June 13, 2025, and we’ll be holding preseason info meetings soon. Keep an eye out for those details, but in the meantime, if you’re curious or ready to take that first step, don’t hesitate to reach out.

You don’t need to be the strongest or the fastest to start—you just need to show up.

If you’re ready to challenge yourself, gain new confidence, and be part of something bigger, let’s talk.

Contact Coach Baldwin at baldwinjh@mukilteo.wednet.edu for more information and to be invited to our Schoology Group.

See you on the mat!

👉 Senior Checkout Requirement

Graduation is approaching and your student has some end-of-year tasks to complete! As a reminder, Senior Check-Out Day will be Wednesday, June 11th from 7:30am to 10am in the Counseling Office.

Senior Checkout cards were distributed! These cards outline specific tasks that seniors need to complete for graduation. Students who have a class during 3rd period at Kamiak should have received their card from their 3rd period teacher. If your student does not attend Kamiak for 3rd period, they can pick up their card from the Counseling Office, open Monday- Friday from 7am to 3:00pm. Running Start students were notified about this process through their school outlook email.

Please encourage your student to pick up their card as soon as possible since these tasks need to be completed BEFORE checkout. Students who do not complete all of their tasks are not eligible to pick up their cap and gown and will not be permitted to participate in our graduation ceremony.

Final Transcripts and Parchment
Students are required to place an official transcript request through Parchment (Kamiak Website --> hover over Counseling tab --> click the Request a Transcript section). If your student does not have a school institution or other organization where they would like it sent to, they should request to have it sent to their personal email. They will need to indicate “Hold for Grades” on the order page when the prompt asks when they would like it sent. This will ensure they receive their final transcript after final senior year grades have been entered. Please keep in mind that transcripts are free for current students, but there is a fee for students to request a copy after the end of this year. They can order as many copies as they want prior to graduating.

Seniors are encouraged to begin completing their Checkout Cards ahead of Checkout on June 11th. Bookkeeping will assist with fines in person next week but will not sign checkout cards until the checkout day. Avoid last-minute delays; complete your paperwork promptly to facilitate a smooth checkout and receive your cap and gown on time. Please don't wait until the end to get your paperwork completed so that checkout can move as quickly as possible and you can collect your cap and gowns.
Running Start Spring Grades and Diploma Pick-Up
If your student is in Running Start and is taking a college class during spring quarter that is required for graduation, they must show that they are currently earning passing grades to participate in the ceremony. Between Monday, June 9th and Wednesday morning, June 11th, Running Start students should send their school counselor a screenshot of their account that includes their name, the class name, and the current percentage grade to confirm they are on track to pass.

Because grades for spring quarter classes are not finalized before summer break, students in Running Start who are currently taking a graduation-required course this quarter will need to pick up their diploma certificate in August. We cannot release diplomas until transcripts are complete, showing your student has passed all required classes at the college. During the graduation ceremony, all students will still receive a diploma book, similar to every other student. Please note that receiving the diploma in August or September should not affect your students post-high school plans. However, if their next opportunity requires a transcript, it is recommended that they inform the institution or program that their final transcript will not be available until a later date.

Running Start students who are NOT taking required courses during spring quarter will be eligible to pick up their diploma starting Monday, June 16th in the Counseling Office.

Additionally, if your senior plans to take any Running Start classes over the summer, please know that their diploma will not be available until we receive final summer quarter grades from the college. These students will be eligible to pick up their diploma in early September. More information will be shared in August.

👉 Senior Checkout Requirement - Senior Exit Survey

As you approach graduation, we ask that every senior completes the Class of 2025 Exit Survey to share your post-high school plans and accomplishments.

Please take a few minutes to provide the following information:
  • Your plans after high school (e.g. apprenticeship, community or technical college, university, military – including branch – gap year, or full-time employment)
  • Any awards or honors you’ve earned this year at Kamiak or through college programs
  • Scholarships you’ve received and plan to use
  • Whether you are earning your associate’s degree by graduation

👉 2025 Senior Exit Survey Link Please complete the survey ASAP. 👈

If your plans change or you receive additional awards or scholarships after submitting the survey, please email Bryan Stelling at stellingbc@mukilteo.wednet.edu to update your information. Do not submit an additional response through the Google form.

Thank you, and congratulations on all you’ve achieved so far!

📚 Kamiak Senior Textbook, Laptop, & Library Book Returns 💻

Congratulations, Seniors, on your upcoming graduation! Before the big day, all materials checked out from Kamiak, including your Dell laptop and charger, library books, and textbooks, must be returned or the fines cleared through the Bookkeeping office. Materials can be returned to Kamiak on Senior check-in day, June 9th, during your Social Studies class. Class time will be provided. Early returns are welcome on your own time to the textbook room or library before school, during passing periods, and lunches.

Seniors can check their Destiny accounts for a list of items checked out by logging in to their account, clicking the tab that says My Info, then Items Out.

Fines can be paid online at https://wa-mkilteo.intouchreceipting.com/ or in person at the Kamiak Bookkeeping Office.

Baccalaureate: June 8th

All seniors are invited to participate in Baccalaureate. This non-denominational ceremony honors graduates and gives seniors a time to reflect on their hard earned achievements during their time in high school. Sunday June 8th, at Mukilteo Presbyterian Church.
