KAMIAK WEEKLY UPDATE

June 5, 2026

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Knight Community,

The senior events are coming up quickly as our graduating class prepares for how high school ends. I am so proud of them and all they have accomplished.

This week, we celebrated the honors, awards, and financial gifts they have received. On behalf of our students and our school community, thank you to everyone who helps make those scholarships, grants, and gifts possible for our students. The support of the Kamiak community is overwhelming.

This is a fantastic moment for some reflection and goal setting for our current 9th to 11th grade. For the 9th grade class, this is the first time they have seen how high school ends. Now is a good time to talk about plans after high school, dreams for the future, and the steps it takes to reach those goals. Students of all grades feel a little closer to their future this time of year.
Lastly, if you know a parent of a senior, you might reach out and share a kind word. For many families of graduates, this is an emotional time in life – especially for those experiencing the senior season for the first, last, or only time.

COUNSELING CORNER

Graduation Planning

Graduation is approaching and your student has some end-of-year tasks to complete! Senior Checkout Cards are available either from your student’s 3rd period teacher, or the Counseling Office if they don’t have a 3rd period at Kamiak. Senior Check-Out Day will be Wednesday, June 10th from 7:30am - 10:00am in the Counseling Office.

Families can visit our Senior Class Page on the Kamiak website to ensure they have all needed information for graduation.

Final Transcripts and Parchment
Students are required to place an official transcript request through Parchment (Kamiak Website --> hover over Counseling tab --> click the Request a Transcript section). If your student does not have a school institution or other organization where they would like it sent to, they should request to have it sent to their personal email. They will need to indicate “Hold for Grades” on the order page when the prompt asks when they would like it sent. This will ensure they receive their final transcript after final senior year grades have been entered. Please keep in mind that transcripts are free for current students, but there is a fee for students to request a copy after the end of this year. They can order as many copies as they want prior to graduating.

Running Start Spring Grades and Diploma Pick-Up
If your student is in Running Start and is taking classes needed for graduation during spring quarter, they must show that they are currently earning passing grades to participate in the graduation ceremony. During Senior Checkout on June 10th, Running Start students will need to log into their CTC Link Canvas account to show their school counselor that they are currently passing.

Because grades for spring quarter classes are not finalized before summer break, students in Running Start who are currently taking a graduation-required course this quarter will need to pick up their diploma certificate in August. We cannot release diplomas until transcripts are complete, showing that your student has passed all required classes. During the graduation ceremony, your student will still receive a diploma book, similar to every other student. Please note that receiving the diploma in August or September should not affect your students post-high school plans. However, if their next opportunity requires a transcript, it is recommended that they inform the institution or program that their final transcript will not be available until a later date.

Running Start students who are NOT taking required courses during spring quarter will be eligible to pick up their diploma starting Monday, June 15th in the Counseling Office.

Additionally, if your senior plans to take any Running Start classes over the summer, please know that their diploma will not be available until we receive final summer quarter grades from the college. These students will be eligible to pick up their diploma in early September, and more information will be shared in August.

Running Start

Running Start fall quarter registration is open! 11th grade students who are currently enrolled in Running Start should be reaching out to their school counselor as soon as possible to complete their quarterly verification form. New students enrolling in Running Start should be finishing up registration steps. There is limited time left to sign-up this year and class spots are filling up fast!

For more information, please visit the Running Start page of the Kamiak website.

Summer School

The Mukilteo School District Summer School will be held from July 6th through July 30th this year at Voyager Middle School. Initial invites were sent through Parent Square message last week for students who met the minimum grade percentage to qualify in available subjects. For questions about Summer School or credit recovery for your student, please reach out to your student’s school counselor.

11th Grade Graduation Status

For current 11th grade students, our Kamiak counselors will be mailing graduation status letters home at the end of May. This letter will indicate if your student is on track to graduate, has a plan in place, or is missing required credits and will need additional support or credit recovery to be on track. Please review this letter with your student and reach out to their school counselor if you have any questions.

School Counselors are designated by student’s last name:

A-C: Kelsey Cummings (CummingsKE@mukilteo.wednet.edu)
