KAMIAK WEEKLY UPDATE

June 17, 2026

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Knight Community,

As we prepare to head out to summer, I want to say two things that are important to me.

First, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the entire Kamiak community for another great year of teaching, learning, leading, and growing. Whatever your role, know that I appreciate your devotion to the success of our students and this community we share. Once again, congratulations to our graduated seniors and your families – we wish you all the best in your next adventures.

Second, I am fan of lists. My memory isn’t good enough to hold on to all the things I need to remember. So, I have a daily to-do list. I have a summer to-do list to prepare for next year. I have several lists I carry around with me in my wallet. Lots of lists…

If you are someone who appreciates a list as well, here are some things I ask you to consider adding to your summer list (or the summer list of a teenager you love):
  • Be careful around water. Wear a lifejacket. Swim in the designated area. Talk about water safety.
  • Dive into boredom. Teenagers’ brains crave constant stimulation. Boredom forces them to flex the creative and self-starting parts of the brain that help them learn and grow.
  • Take a class that makes you better at serving others: babysitting, first aid, CPR, cooking, etc.
  • Try a food you are certain you won’t like.
  • Spend a couple afternoons watching online video tutorials for the math class you are taking next year.
  • Read a book. Or, read lots of books. If you need a good recommendation, the Sno-Isle Libraries have a ton of suggestions for teens and young adult readers.
  • Spend intentional time away from electronic devices. Phones are useful tools…and they are also expertly engineered to keep us looking at them, while missing the world around us.
  • Connect with an elderly person in your neighborhood. Invite them to come to a game or concert with you next year. Anyone over 65 can attend nearly any Mukilteo School District event at no cost. (Here’s a link to how they get that benefit.)
  • Keep a journal of how you spend your summer. Don’t quit if you miss a day or two. Glue in bits and pieces of things that will help you remember how you spent your time. If you have a little extra money, you might like a small sticker printer to include pictures you’ve taken. (This is a link to one I like.)
  • Go thrifting for purple clothes to wear on spirit Fridays next year. If you have any skills with textiles, you can customize your inexpensive find to make it wholly your own.
  • Stay away from poisons and toxins – which pretty much includes all drugs and alcohol – and encourage your friends to do the same. Keep doing the things that keep you and your friends healthy.
  • Practice ten quiet minutes each day. If you can manage to separate yourself from all distractions, you might like what you discover in the still quietness.
However you spend your summer, please include joy on your list. You’ve worked hard and I am proud of you.

Welcome to summer!

Kamiak Lady Knights Wrestling Summer Camp

The Kamiak Lady Knights Wrestling program is excited to announce our first ever 2026 Girls Wrestling Summer Camp, taking place June 30th – July 2nd.

Please note: while this camp is being hosted and run by the Kamiak Lady Knights Wrestling program, it will be held at the MARINER High School Wrestling Room due to fire alarm system updates currently taking place at Kamiak High School this summer.

This girls-only camp is specifically designed to welcome and encourage girls who are new to wrestling or just getting started in the sport. No experience is necessary. Our goal is to create a fun, supportive, and positive environment where athletes can learn the basics of wrestling, build confidence, and discover how strong and capable they can be.

The camp will be led by:
• Ally De La Cruz – Kamiak Alumni & 2017 Girls State Champion
• Sophie Averill – Woodinville High School Head Coach
• Kamiak Lady Knights Wrestling Coaches assisting with supervision and coaching throughout camp

At Kamiak Lady Knights Wrestling, we believe wrestling should build more than athletes. We focus on helping girls grow in confidence, resilience, leadership, and self-belief both on and off the mat. Our coaching philosophy emphasizes encouragement, effort, teamwork, and creating a welcoming environment where every athlete can succeed at their own pace.

This camp is a great opportunity for girls to:
• Learn wrestling basics in a beginner-friendly environment
• Build confidence and athletic skills
• Meet new friends and teammates
• Learn from successful female wrestlers and coaches
• Discover the sport of girls wrestling in a supportive atmosphere

Camp Information:
• Cost: $150 per wrestler
• Dates: June 30th, July 1st, July 2nd
