Good news - We have an upcoming Picture Day for anyone who was unable to join us on Business Days! Students will receive a pass to get their picture taken on Friday, September 11th in the Foyer of the gym.

Kamiak will be hosting it's annual Curriculum night. We will be beginning the night at 6:00 PM with our annual Club Fair, followed by student class schedule rotations, which will begin at 7:00 PM.

For those new to Kamiak, this newsletter is sent mostly once each week on Friday afternoons. We want all our families to be informed and feel included in their school community. One of our ongoing goals is two-way communication with families. You can reply to these messages and your comments are routed to someone for a response. If you have questions or need help, replying to these messages is one way to get in touch.

Student drop off and pick up is only permitted at the south side entrance towards the PAC (parallel to Silver lot) and at the north side entrance in the White Lot by the bus loop (reminder: cars are NOT allowed to drop off in the bus loop).

Did you know you can add calendar events to your device's calendar? From the ParentSquare mobile app, go to the "events" icon. Dates with activities are shown with a circle around the date. Click on a date and then click the event. You have the option to add it to your device's calendar so

you'll remember important events even when you're not checking ParentSquare.

From the desktop version of ParentSquare, click on the calendar tab on the left of your screen. You have the option to subscribe to the calendar, download the events, (and import to a personal calendar), or print the calendar by month.

We experience a high volume of calls and requests during student hours particularly during the automated parent notifications (9:00AM-10:00AM), please leave a voicemail and we will contact you back as soon as possible. For the fastest response, please email us directly.

Absences: To excuse an absence, we must hear from a parent within 48hours of the absence and must include the following. Incomplete submissions may delay the processing of your request, to ensure a timely and accurate process, please include the following information in all methods of communication:

Parent/Guardian Name and Signature (if submitting a note)

The following reasons for absence/late arrival/early departure are authorized for excusal per District Policy:

Late Arrivals: Any student arrival after 7:20AM must report to the Attendance Office to check in before going to class, failure to do so may result in corrective action. Late arrivals will remain as unexcused until contact from a parent/guardian is received.

Early Dismissals: Any/All early dismissals require advances notice from a parent/guardian at least one (1) day prior to the early dismissal request. An early dismissal slip will be delivered to your student, allowing them to be released 10 minutes prior to your requested time. This additional time allows for your student to travel from class to the Attendance Office to sign out at the Attendance Office before leaving campus in accordance with district policies. If your student returns to school later the same day, they must sign back in at the Attendance Office before resuming classes to ensure their record is updated accordingly. Failure to follow this procedure may result in corrective actions.

Attendance Challenge Form: If a student believes they were incorrectly marked absent or tardy, they must first address the concern directly with their teacher. The Attendance Office cannot make any changes without teacher authorization. Students may pick up an Attendance Challenge Form from our office. Once the form is completed and signed by the appropriate teacher(s), it should be returned to the Attendance Office for review. Please note: Arrivals to class more than 10 minutes late are considered a class absence.

Illness at School: If a student begins to feel ill during the school day, they must report to the Health Room. For guidance on when to keep your student home and when they are permitted to return to school following illness, please refer to the Mukilteo School District’s guidelines here: [Mukilteo School District - When Your Student is Sick]

Pre-Arranged Absences (of any length): Pre-Arranged Absence Forms are required for any absence of any length of duration that does not fall within the authorized reasons for excused absences. The principal (or designee) may excuse up to five (5) school days for a pre-arranged absence, per student each school year. Once the five days have been used, the remaining requested days will be considered “unexcused” unless otherwise approved by the principal or designee. Pre-Arranged Absence Forms are to be completed and turned in one (1) week before the planned absence. A link to that form is available here for your convenience or may be picked up in the Attendance office on the second floor.

The first Drama Club meeting of the year will be Friday, September 11th after school on the Stage in the PAC. All Kamiak students are welcome to come learn about upcoming opportunities both on and off stage, Dramafest auditions, and the winter play announcement! At Kamiak, we offer a variety of clubs, activities, and academic support programs designed to meet diverse interests and help you succeed. Click the button below to see all the opportunities available, including when and where to join!

If your student would like to meet with their School Counselor or our Career and College Readiness Counselor, there are a couple of ways: 

 

To sign-up for an appointment, students can visit the Counseling Office and our office staff will help them schedule a day and time that works for them, based on availability. Students can stop by before or after school, or during lunch to make an appointment. These appointments are for individual students only. 

 

During lunches, our counselors have drop-in time available for quick questions (5 minutes or less). No appointment needed. Students can also send questions through email and/or Schoology message if they prefer. Drop-ins times are only available to students.

This is a reminder to our Running Start students about when they are allowed to be on Kamiak’s campus. Per administration, Running Start students cannot be on our Kamiak campus unless they are attending a class or have a pre-scheduled appointment or activity. We do not allow unscheduled visits to staff or lunch visitors. 

 

Part-time Running Start students who have one or more classes at Kamiak are allowed on our campus up to 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after their on-campus class period(s). Visits during the school day that are not during those times must be prearranged with specific staff. 

 

If your student is waiting for their first Kamiak class to start or for a ride home after their last class, they may spend those 15 (or less) minutes in the Commons only. All other campus locations, such as the library and teacher classrooms, are closed areas to Running Start students. 

 

Full-time Running Start students (those who do not have classes at Kamiak) must always sign in at the main office. Any visits during the school day are required to have a previously arranged meeting. 

 

For questions about Running Start expectations, please contact your students school counselor. 

Transcripts are a cumulative record of your student’s high school courses, grades, and credits. GPA (Grade Point Average) is provided on the transcript and updated each semester as new classes and grades are added. The process for requesting transcripts is outlined below. 

 

Unofficial: This is an informal version of the transcript that outlines previous classes and grades, credits earned, current Kamiak classes, and an overview of remaining graduation requirements. Students can contact their school counselor to obtain a copy of their unofficial transcript. 

 

Official: To request a copy of an official transcript, students should visit the Request a Transcript page of the Kamiak website, located under the Counseling tab. Students will need to create an account in the Parchment application to submit requests. Transcripts will be delivered electronically and can be sent to students themselves, family members, teachers, colleges, programs, etc. Current students can request transcripts for free and should allow 2-3 school days to process requests. Graduated students are required to pay a small fee.

The Kamiak Athletic Booster Club (KABC) is a group of parents of current and former athletes who work together to financially support student-athletes at Kamiak. Guided by our by-laws and mission, we raise and manage funds, promote school spirit, assist the Athletic Department, and advocate for athletics in our community. KABC provides funding across a wide range of sports teams and, through team fundraising, scholarships, and support for equipment, training, and facilities, we strive to strengthen the connection between academics and athletics while fostering pride, camaraderie, and opportunities for all Kamiak athletes.
