Every year, thousands of children are transported to and from school by school bus. The State of Washington requires all school districts to establish written policies and procedures addressing school bus safety and emergency evacuation drills.

Emergency exit drills are required throughout the school year at designated times, as outlined in 

WAC 392-145-080. These drills provide students with the opportunity to learn and practice how to safely exit a school bus in the event of an emergency.

School bus rules and safety procedures are being provided to you and your students so that you may review them together and help ensure that everyone understands the expectations for safe behavior while riding the bus.

We’re excited to offer activity bus transportation again this year for students participating in after-school athletics, clubs, and other extracurricular programs. 

Each middle and high school will have one activity bus that operates nightly. Our bus will leave school at 3:55PM, Monday through Thursday. This bus route is provided to ensure that students participating in after school extended learning and enrichment activities have access to convenient school transportation home. 

This year, activity bus routes have been updated to run more like transit routes, making planned stops—including stops at the elementary schools they serve—to help cover more areas efficiently. Route times are relatively close to, or even shorter than, what students experienced last year.

Student drop off and pick up is only permitted at the south side entrance towards the PAC (parallel to Silver lot) and at the north side entrance in the White Lot by the bus loop (reminder: cars are NOT allowed to drop off in the bus loop).

Absences: To excuse an absence, we must hear from a parent within 48hours of the absence and must include the following. Incomplete submissions may delay the processing of your request, to ensure a timely and accurate process, please include the following information in all methods of communication:

The following reasons for absence/late arrival/early departure are authorized for excusal per District Policy:

Late Arrivals: Any student arrival after 7:20AM must report to the Attendance Office to check in before going to class, failure to do so may result in corrective action. Late arrivals will remain as unexcused until contact from a parent/guardian is received.

Early Dismissals: Any/All early dismissals require advances notice from a parent/guardian at least one (1) day prior to the early dismissal request. An early dismissal slip will be delivered to your student, allowing them to be released 10 minutes prior to your requested time. This additional time allows for your student to travel from class to the Attendance Office to sign out at the Attendance Office before leaving campus in accordance with district policies. If your student returns to school later the same day, they must sign back in at the Attendance Office before resuming classes to ensure their record is updated accordingly. Failure to follow this procedure may result in corrective actions.

Attendance Challenge Form: If a student believes they were incorrectly marked absent or tardy, they must first address the concern directly with their teacher. The Attendance Office cannot make any changes without teacher authorization. Students may pick up an Attendance Challenge Form from our office. Once the form is completed and signed by the appropriate teacher(s), it should be returned to the Attendance Office for review. Please note: Arrivals to class more than 10 minutes late are considered a class absence.

Illness at School: If a student begins to feel ill during the school day, they must report to the Health Room. For guidance on when to keep your student home and when they are permitted to return to school following illness, please refer to the Mukilteo School District’s guidelines here: [Mukilteo School District - When Your Student is Sick]

Pre-Arranged Absences (of any length): Pre-Arranged Absence Forms are required for any absence of any length of duration that does not fall within the authorized reasons for excused absences. The principal (or designee) may excuse up to five (5) school days for a pre-arranged absence, per student each school year. Once the five days have been used, the remaining requested days will be considered “unexcused” unless otherwise approved by the principal or designee. Pre-Arranged Absence Forms are to be completed and turned in one (1) week before the planned absence. A link to that form is available here for your convenience or may be picked up in the Attendance office on the second floor.

Varsity Boys Football lost to Woodinville

Cross country-The Kamiak runners travelled to Bellingham on Saturday.  For the Knights, the Freshmen led the way with leading performances from Jax Walker, Brandon Smith, and Serena Raaum.  Both teams impressed in their opening meet of the season.  Go Knights!!

Boys Tennis against Glacier Peak- JV won 4-3 and Varsity won 4-3

Girls C-Team Soccer took on Stanwood and came away with a 6-0 win. Goals by Deanna Timchenko, Olivia Ngoy, 2 by Cloe Zauli, a free kick from Mia Amor and Tanner McVey from a corner. Assists by Mia Amor, Cloe Zauli, and Serene Dana. The Defense kept the shutout led by Goalkeeper Andrea Phan.  

Girls Varsity Swimming lost against Shorewood

Girls Volleyball against Meadowdale- Varsity won 3-0, JV lost and C-Team won 2-1

Girls JV and Varsity Soccer- JV beat Edmonds-Woodway 7-0. Goal scorers were Clara Prince with 2, Carmen Lee, Eden Cobo, Syniet Bimiam, Ava Richter and Addie Rigmaiden each with 1. Assists from Eden Cobo, Syniet Biniam, Ava Richter with 2 and Lucy Challman with 2. Varsity battled to a 0-0 draw earning a shutout in Lucy Gardiner’s first game in net this season. Kamiak created some chances including hitting the crossbar but couldn’t find the game winner. 

Boys C-Team Football lost to Woodinville

Girls C-Team Soccer went to Arlington High School and came away with a 3-0 win. Cloe Zauli had a hat trick, getting two of her goals by stealing the ball from Arlington’s defense and putting them in the back of the net. Her other goal was assisted by Olivia Ngoy. Your knights earned another shutout behind goalkeeper Andrea Phan and a solid back line.

Boys Tennis against Mariner- JV won 4-3 and Varsity won 7-2

Cross country- The Knights travelled to Twin Lakes Park in Marysville.  The JV boys dominated the race, with Grayson Bell, Joe Ahn, Keegan Ferris and Caleb Crim taking the top 4 places.  Serena Raaum took the individual title for the girls. And, the varsity boys Pack-Attack --directed by Anders Raaum--came up just short of the team victory over Jackson.

This is a reminder to our Running Start students about when they are allowed to be on Kamiak’s campus. Per administration, Running Start students cannot be on our Kamiak campus unless they are attending a class or have a pre-scheduled appointment or activity. We do not allow unscheduled visits to staff or lunch visitors. 

 

Part-time Running Start students who have one or more classes at Kamiak are allowed on our campus up to 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after their on-campus class period(s). Visits during the school day that are not during those times must be prearranged with specific staff. 

 

If your student is waiting for their first Kamiak class to start or for a ride home after their last class, they may spend those 15 (or less) minutes in the Commons only. All other campus locations, such as the library and teacher classrooms, are closed areas to Running Start students. 

 

Full-time Running Start students (those who do not have classes at Kamiak) must always sign in at the main office. Any visits during the school day are required to have a previously arranged meeting.

Does your 12th grade student still have Fine Arts and/or World Language credits needed for graduation? If yes, please read the message below. If your student is unsure, please have them reach out to their counselor to review a copy of their transcript.

 

Students can waive up to 1.0 Fine Arts credit and up to 2.0 World Language credits for graduation through their Personalized Pathway Requirement (PPR). The Personalized Pathway allows for certain credits in high school to be “flexible” credits to give students more choice in pursuing their interests, based around their post-high school goals. 

 

If your student is planning to waive any remaining Fine Arts and/or World Language credits, they need to meet with their school counselor as soon as possible to complete the PPR waiver form. Students are considered not on track for graduation unless they have met with their counselor to confirm a plan for all remaining credits. Forms can be found in the Counseling Office and students should plan to submit any high school waivers by Tuesday, October 15th.

The Kamiak Athletic Booster Club (KABC) is a group of parents of current and former athletes who work together to financially support student-athletes at Kamiak. Guided by our by-laws and mission, we raise and manage funds, promote school spirit, assist the Athletic Department, and advocate for athletics in our community. KABC provides funding across a wide range of sports teams and, through team fundraising, scholarships, and support for equipment, training, and facilities, we strive to strengthen the connection between academics and athletics while fostering pride, camaraderie, and opportunities for all Kamiak athletes.
