KAMIAK WEEKLY UPDATE

June 20, 2025

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

We often hear Ms. Casson announcing that students should ‘make good choices.’ I spoke with teachers, support staff, and even a handful of students about what ‘good choices’ they thought we should include in our summer plans.

As we head off to summer, here are some of the ‘good choices’ we hope everyone will consider:
  • Wear a helmet
  • Wear a life jacket – be safe in the water
  • Don’t get into a car with someone who has consumed drugs or alcohol
  • Use sunscreen
  • Call a family member you haven’t spoken with in a while
  • Pick a cause that is important to you and volunteer some time (e.g. beach clean up)
  • Waste a whole afternoon playing in the sun
  • Help someone three times your age – you might offer to bring in a garbage can, mow a lawn, or hold the door for them
  • Put your phone away while driving
  • Pick an essential ‘summer song’
  • Learn a magic trick
  • Surprise your parents by doing chores before being asked
  • Rearrange your bedroom
  • Read a book
  • Watch a good movie on the biggest screen you can find
  • Call a friend instead of texting
  • Rediscover a board game you loved when you were younger
  • Watch a sunset – the whole sunset – until it gets dark
  • Pick an afternoon and invite your friends to have a water balloon fight
  • Learn a few words in a language you don’t already know – start with ‘hello,’ ‘please,’ and ‘thank you’
  • Keep a photo or video diary of your summer adventures

Whatever your summer plans, I hope you will indeed make ‘good choices.’ You have worked hard all year and I am proud of you. I wish you the best with this well-earned break.

Honoring Pride Month

We see and welcome students, staff and family members who identify as LGBTQ+. Feeling included and supported is one of the most critical elements of well-being and we welcome ALL students, staff and families. Pride Month is celebrated each year in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, which was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.

ATHLETICS

Kamiak Spring/Summer Athletic-Activity Period June 2nd--July 31st

The WIAA rules allow for our coaches to work directly with our incoming and returning student-athletes during the Spring/Summer time period: June 2nd-July 31st

Coaches that will be offering optional school and booster sponsored activities will be sending out information soon specific to their programs, but all incoming and current Kamiak student-athletes must have their parent fill out the below Google form to be cleared into the Spring/Summer season for practices, camps, open gyms, contests, open conditioning, etc.

Here is the Spring/Summer Athletic-Activity parent permission form link:

We will also post the link on our Athletic Website here:

Our Athletic website is also a great place to find out more about our Athletic programs, coaches contact information, and tryout information as we get closer to the next school year.

We’re excited about the important work that will happen this Spring and Summer that will launch us into a great 25-26 school year for Kamiak Athletics.

Join Kamiak Girls Wrestling 🤼‍♀️

Hello Kamiak Athletes,

Are you looking for a sport that will build confidence, toughness, and grit—while surrounding you with a team that feels like family? If so, Kamiak Girls Wrestling wants you.

All necessary equipment is provided, with one exception: wrestlers will need their own wrestling shoes. However, if cost is a concern, I have ways to cover shoes for anyone who needs help—just let me know privately and we’ll make it work.

Whether you're a seasoned competitor or have never tried wrestling in your life, there's a place for you on our team. No experience is required—just a willingness to learn, work hard, and support each other. I can teach anyone to wrestle.

Wrestling is a no-cut sport, which means everyone is welcome. If you’re willing to show up and try, you have a spot on our team.

Since 2018, Kamiak has been one of the pioneers in supporting girls wrestling in Washington. We were one of the first schools in the state to establish a dedicated girls wrestling team, and we’ve grown steadily each year. We also host one of the best and longest-running girls tournaments in the state—the Lady Knights Invitational, now entering its 8th year.

💥 This year, we’re taking another big step forward:

For the first time, our practices will be completely separate from the boys, giving us our own space and time to train.

We’ll also be competing in full girls dual meets throughout the season—something we’ve fought hard to make happen.

Our season begins November 17, 2025, with registration opening June 13, 2025, and we’ll be holding preseason info meetings soon. Keep an eye out for those details, but in the meantime, if you’re curious or ready to take that first step, don’t hesitate to reach out.

You don’t need to be the strongest or the fastest to start—you just need to show up.

If you’re ready to challenge yourself, gain new confidence, and be part of something bigger, let’s talk.

Contact Coach Baldwin at baldwinjh@mukilteo.wednet.edu for more information and to be invited to our Schoology Group.

See you on the mat!
