KAMIAK WEEKLY UPDATE

September 19, 2025

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Please make plans to join us for our annual Kamiak Curriculum Night on September 25th.

The evening begins with a tour of student clubs, activities, sports, and community groups at 6:00PM in the Commons. This informal gathering gives parents/guardians the opportunity to visit with student leaders and learn more about the extra-curricular programs at Kamiak.

At 7:00PM, parents/guardians are invited to attend presentations by their children’s teachers, following the same schedule their students use during the regular school day. This formal portion of the evening provides parents/guardians some time to learn about each class and their children’s teachers.

Watch for more information on this special event in the days ahead.

STUDENT AND FAMILY INFORMATION

Being on time to class matters! ⌚

The first minutes of class are when teachers share the learning goals, directions, and warm-ups that set the tone for the entire lesson. Missing those minutes means you start class already behind, and it disrupts your classmates’ learning.

Beginning on September 22nd, Kamiak will turn on automatic detentions for tardies. This means:
  • If you are not in your assigned class when the bell rings, you will be marked tardy.
  • For every three tardies in a class period, students will receive an automatic detention.
Remember:
  • The first 10 minutes of class are critical for setting you up for success.
  • Being on time shows your readiness and respect—for your teacher, your peers, and your own learning.
  • Every minute counts. Don’t miss out.
Let’s commit to being in class, on time, every day—because learning starts the moment the bell rings.

Activity Bus 🚌

We’re excited to offer activity bus transportation again this year for students participating in after-school athletics, clubs, and other extracurricular programs.

Each middle and high school will have one activity bus that operates nightly. Our bus will leave school at 3:55PM, Monday through Thursday. This bus route is provided to ensure that students participating in after school extended learning and enrichment activities have access to convenient school transportation home.

This year, activity bus routes have been updated to run more like transit routes, making planned stops—including stops at the elementary schools they serve—to help cover more areas efficiently. Route times are relatively close to, or even shorter than, what students experienced last year.

To view Kamiak’s activity bus routes, drop-off times, and stop maps, see below or visit our district transportation page

KAMIAK HS – Bus leaves Kamiak at 4:00 PM (drop off times vary depending on ridership)

COUNSELING CORNER

Official and Unofficial Transcripts

Transcripts are a cumulative record of your student’s high school courses, grades, and credits. GPA (Grade Point Average) is provided on the transcript and updated each semester as new classes and grades are added. The process for transcript requests differs based on need and student status (see below). If your student has any questions, please have them contact their school counselor.

Official: To request a copy of an official transcript, students should visit the Transcript Request page of the Kamiak website, located within the CCRC (Career and College Readiness) section under Counseling. Students will need to create an account in the Parchment application to make requests during and after high school. Transcripts will be delivered electronically and can be sent to students themselves, family members, teachers, colleges, programs, etc. Current high school students can request transcripts for free and should allow 2-3 school days to process requests.

Once a student has graduated, there is a small fee for each transcript requested. We recommend students request a copy for themselves at the end of their senior year so they can keep it for future use.

Unofficial: This is an informal version of the transcript that outlines classes and grades, credits earned, and an overview of remaining graduation requirements. Students can contact their school counselor to obtain a copy of their unofficial transcript.

Does your student want to meet with their school counselor? Here’s how!

If your student would like to meet with their school counselor or our college and career counselor, there are a couple of ways.

To sign-up for an appointment, students can visit our Counseling Office and our office staff will help them schedule a day and time that works for them (based on availability). Students can stop by before or after school, or during lunch to make an appointment.

Students can also come see us during their lunch time (no appointment needed). These are drop-in meetings for quick questions (3-5 minutes or less). Students can also send questions through email and/or Schoology message if they prefer.

Running Start Schedules

This is a reminder to our Running Start students about when you are allowed to be on Kamiak’s campus. Running Start students cannot be on our Kamiak campus unless they are attending a class or have a pre-scheduled appointment or activity.

Part-time Running Start students (with classes at Kamiak) are allowed on Kamiak’s campus 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after their on-campus class period. Visits during the school day that are not during those times should be prearranged with specific staff. We do not allow unscheduled visits to staff or lunch visitors.

When waiting for your first Kamiak class to start or for a ride home after your last class, you may spend those 15 (or less) minutes in the Commons only. All other campus locations, such as the library and teacher classrooms, are closed areas to Running Start students without prior arrangements with a staff member.

Full-time Running Start students (with no classes at Kamiak) always sign in at the office. Visits during the school day should be prearranged with specific staff. We do not allow unscheduled visits to staff or lunch visitors.

For questions about Running Start expectations, please contact your counselor.
