KAMIAK WEEKLY UPDATE

February 6, 2026

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Knight Community,
This week we paused to recognize the special contributions of one group of staff members greatly appreciated by students, families, and staff alike.

Happy School Counselor Week!

The contributions of our counselors extend into every area of student success. They invest in our students’ academic plans and help them navigate the challenges of being a young scholar. Our students lean on them for wise counsel in all kinds of situations. Our families count on our counselors to help make sense of the complexities of high school and beyond. They are champions for our students’ dreams – unlocking doors to careers, college, and life after high school. And, every single day they are there with our students when they need a patient ear and a word of encouragement.

On behalf of the entire Kamiak community, thank you counselors for all you do for our students and our school.

COUNSELING CORNER

College Applications: Mid-Year Report (Senior Families Only)

If you have a senior applying to 4-year colleges or universities, they may soon receive a reminder about the Mid-Year Report/Mid-Year Transcript application requirement. This report, which includes a copy of their 1st semester grades, allows admissions offices to review how a student is performing academically during their senior year. It can help confirm that students are maintaining strong grades, continuing to challenge themselves, and/or making progress in current courses. It can also influence admission decisions, waitlist outcomes, and scholarship consideration, depending on the school.

Not all schools will ask for a Mid-Year Report. Please have your student check each college’s application portal to confirm whether one is required. If so, they will need to contact their school counselor to review next steps. Transcripts will be updated and available when we return from mid-winter break.
An important note…colleges request Mid-Year Reports early in the year because some high schools end their semesters in January. These institutions recognize that high schools across states will finalize first-semester transcripts at different times. Please know that any deadline prior to early-March, is not a hard deadline, and schools will accept transcripts at the time they are available from the individual high school. If students are concerned about deadlines from the college, they can reach out to the college’s admissions office directly.
