KAMIAK WEEKLY UPDATE
February 28, 2025
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
All our current students have begun the process of registration for next year. This is a good time for families to talk about some key things that help Knights thrive:
  • Balance – Taking the right amount of academic challenge is important. We want what schools call “productive struggle” where students experience rigor but not to the detrement of their mental health. Struggle is normal and the challenge can be valuable – up to a point.
  • Process – Students need to turn in their registration material online and on paper. The forms are submitted through English classes. Be sure to save your changes online.
  • Alternates – We do our best to build a master schedule that is robust with diverse opportunities and students often get their first choices. Still, there are many complications that force us to give students their alternate choices instead. Please be sure you have alternate classes on your list that you are as excited about as your first picks.
  • Schedule Change Process – We are already working on hiring and placing staff in positions for next year so we can give students as much as possible of what they request. There comes a point where we have to cut off changes to schedule requests so we can ensure we have the right staff aligned in the right order for the first days of school. After you have made your selections and submitted them, we will reopen the process for a change window from April 28th through May 9th. This is the last time we allow students to ‘change their minds’ so we can work on finalizing the schedule.

Kamiak Athletic Hall of Fame
Greetings Kamiak Knights Community! Beginning on 2/1/25, the Kamiak Athletic Hall of Fame Committee will be opening our Hall of Fame nomination process to our whole school community and alumni networks for our next HOF induction class of 2025-2026. The nomination window will stay open until 6/1/25. Once the nomination window closes, then our committee will review all nominations in August of 2025, and then determine which nominees will be inducted into the 2nd inductee class of the Kamiak Hall of Fame using our established Kamiak HOF criteria. Once the inductees have been selected, then we will honor and recognize our HOF inductees at half time of our Homecoming football game in the Fall of 2025, and then host an induction ceremony at Kamiak in June of 2026.

Here is our nomination form for our 2nd Kamiak HOF induction class for the 2025-2026 school year (due 6/1/25):

We will be hosting our first every Kamiak HOF induction ceremony on June 21st, 2025 in our Commons from 1-4pm. We are excited about honoring and recognizing the outstanding student-athletes, teams, and coaches from Kamiak. Planning and preparation for our 1st ever Kamiak HOF ceremony are still being developed. More details to come!

  • If you’d like to help us by volunteering to be on our HOF induction ceremony sub-committee, then please don’t hesitate to contact Sean Monica the building athletic director for more information.
  • Email at: monicasp@mukilteo.wednet.edu

Here again is our 1st Kamiak HOF induction class that we will celebrate this June:

We are so appreciative of the on-going support of our Kamiak community & alumni. And we’re excited about the partnerships our coaches, our student-athletes, and our parents engage in each and every day. As a result of these combined efforts, I have no doubt that there are future Kamiak Hall of Famer’s walking our halls.

COUNSELING CORNER
2025-2026 Kamiak Registration
Registration for next year has begun! 9th-11th grade students were presented with registration information and materials just before mid-winter break. Running Start 11th graders were emailed the information to their school outlook. We encourage students and families to look over the information together and make thoughtful choices about next year classes. The classes your student chooses are a commitment they are making for the full-year next year. Students will have an opportunity between April 28th and May 9th to make changes to their course requests. We will remind students and families about this opportunity as it draws near.

For registration presentations, videos, and our course guide, please visit the Course Requests page of the Kamiak website

For our current 8th graders/incoming 9th graders, Kamiak counselors will be visiting middle schools to present registration information on Wednesday, March 12th and Thursday, March 13th. We will be sharing more information with 8th grade families at that time.

Parent Meeting for Incoming 9th Graders March 13th from 6:00 - 8:30 PM starting in the Kamiak gym. (no students, for parents only)
Running Start Spring Quarter Registration
Spring quarter registration will begin near the end of February. To register for classes, students will need to complete the quarterly Running Start Verification form and meet with their Kamiak school counselor to have it signed. A copy of the verification form is available on the Kamiak Running Start page (under Counseling) and hard copies are available in the Counseling Office. Students were all sent directions for spring quarter registration to their school outlook email. They should refer to this before contacting their counselor.

On an ongoing basis, the college sends email reminders for registration, requirements, etc. We ask that students please review all college email communication they receive. Students are also required to continually check their school email (outlook) throughout the school year. Our team sends reminders not only about Running Start, but also updated Kamiak schedules, graduation reminders, grade-level activities, etc. Students are responsible for knowing this information.
Running Start 2025-2026
Running Start information was presented to students and families through our Running Start webinar on Tuesday, February 11th. If your student was not able to attend, there is a recording available on the Career and College Readiness page of the Kamiak website (under Counseling). We HIGHLY encourage parents to watch this webinar with their students, and students should plan to view this prior to meeting with their school counselor.

For Kamiak registration, students who are interested in joining Running Start for the first time should plan to complete a registration form as if they will be attending Kamiak full-time next year (even if they plan to do full-time Running Start). Directions were sent to students through their school outlook emails. Current 11th grade Running Start students will also need to complete a registration form and should follow the directions emailed to them.

In March, we will host Running Start information sessions for students who want to get started on planning. We will advertise these dates when they are scheduled.
Graduation Requirements for Seniors
If your student is completing online classes for credits this year, we highly recommend they get started on these as soon as possible. Many of these courses can take several months to complete and every year we have students who push the work to the last minute. Your student will not be eligible to participate in graduation if they have not completed all required credits.

For students enrolled in our Plato Credit Recovery class, keep up the hard work! Many students have quite a few credits to make up and setting up a time to check-in with their Plato teacher can be a great opportunity to confirm their status and make a plan.

Students enrolled in Washington State History, can contact their teacher, Mr. Semeraro, if they have concerns about deadlines for course. We have quite a few seniors who are not passing the class at this time, and we hope that students can work hard to catch up and pass for the semester. This is a graduation-required class for those that still need the credit.
