STUDENT AND FAMILY INFORMATION
Seniors Take Over Video
On Friday, February 14th, Kamiak staff stepped aside as seniors took charge for Senior Takeover Day! Around 40 seniors experienced what it’s like to be a teacher, administrator, or even principal for a day.

Senior Levi Develice reflected on the event, saying, “We started with a rough idea of just wanting to give seniors a day to swap roles with educators to acknowledge how far we've all come in our four years at Kamiak.”

To earn their positions, students had to complete job applications and impress a panel of staff interviewers with their skills. The experience was not only eye-opening for students but also incredibly rewarding for staff, who had the chance to see their students step up as leaders. It was a day filled with learning, laughter, and a deeper appreciation for the roles that make a school thrive.

Check out this brief video showcasing the seniors in action:

COUNSELING CORNER
2025-2026 Kamiak Registration
9th-11th grade students submitted their course choices this week for our March 5th deadline. If your student has NOT submitted their registration form, we will need it as soon as possible. Students should bring late forms to the Counseling Office.

As a reminder, students were presented with registration information and materials just before mid-winter break. Running Start 11th graders were emailed the information to their school outlook. The classes your student chooses are a commitment they are making for the full-year next year. Students will have an opportunity between April 28th and May 9th to make changes to their course requests. We will remind students and families about this opportunity as it draws near.

For registration presentations, videos, and our course guide, please visit the Course Requests page of the Kamiak website

For our current 8th graders/incoming 9th graders, Kamiak counselors will be visiting middle schools to present registration information on Wednesday, March 12th and Thursday, March 13th. We will be sharing more information with 8th grade families at that time.

Parent Meeting for Incoming 9th Graders March 13th from 6:00 - 8:30 PM starting in the main building. (no students, for parents only)
Running Start Spring Quarter Registration
Spring quarter registration will begin near the end of February. To register for classes, students will need to complete the quarterly Running Start Verification form and meet with their Kamiak school counselor to have it signed. A copy of the verification form is available on the Kamiak Running Start page (under Counseling) and hard copies are available in the Counseling Office. Students were all sent directions for spring quarter registration to their school outlook email. They should refer to this before contacting their counselor.

On an ongoing basis, the college sends email reminders for registration, requirements, etc. We ask that students please review all college email communication they receive. Students are also required to continually check their school email (outlook) throughout the school year. Our team sends reminders not only about Running Start, but also updated Kamiak schedules, graduation reminders, grade-level activities, etc. Students are responsible for knowing this information.
Running Start 2025-2026
Running Start information was presented to students and families through our Running Start webinar on Tuesday, February 11th. If your student was not able to attend, there is a recording available on the Career and College Readiness page of the Kamiak website (under Counseling). We HIGHLY encourage parents to watch this webinar with their students, and students should plan to view this prior to meeting with their school counselor.

This month, we will host Running Start information sessions for students who want to get started on planning. We will advertise these dates as they are scheduled, and students will be reminded through our morning announcements. Our first information sessions will be held during both lunches on Tuesday, March 11th in the Career Center (Counseling Office).
Graduation Requirements for Seniors
We are only a few months away from graduation! If your student is completing online classes or participating in Plato Credit Recovery this year, we strongly encourage them to remain focused and proactive in their coursework. Many of these courses require several months to complete, and each year, we see students face challenges by postponing their work until the last minute. Your student will not be eligible to participate in graduation if they have not completed all required credits.
Academic Supports at Kamiak
As a reminder, Kamiak offers an activity bus after school Monday through Thursday at 4:00pm for students who stay for tutoring or academic support. Students should pick up a red activity bus pass from the staff member supervising them after school.

KAP (Kamiak Afterschool Program) – KAP is an academic intervention program that provides students with a structured, supportive environment to work on current, late, or missing assignments, complete assessments, and build study skills. It is led by a dedicated teacher and supported by student and staff tutors, providing students with a focused environment to efficiently complete their work. Sessions are held Monday through Thursday from 2:10 PM to 3:00 PM in a classroom setting. Students can bring in work, or your students’ teachers can work with our KAP teacher to give feedback on assignments to prioritize. Students can be referred to KAP by a teacher, counselor, or administrator.

Academic Coaches - The Academic Coach program provides students with the opportunity to receive peer tutoring from knowledgeable upper-level students in a wide range of subjects offered at Kamiak. Tutoring sessions are typically held in the Kamiak library after school. Led by our librarian, Ms. Schwenn, the program is designed to support students in enhancing their academic skills, reinforcing subject knowledge, and encouraging students to build confidence in themselves. Students can access the Academic Coach request form on Schoology in the Library section.

Study Zone – Our school library hosts a Study Zone that serves as an academic resource, offering students a quiet and focused space for studying, collaborating on group projects, conducting research, and accessing a wide range of learning materials. Our Study Zone is open to students Monday through Thursday from 2:00pm – 3:30pm. For those needing extra academic support, our Academic Coaches (see above) may be available for drop-in assistance. Students can also visit the Library for resources before school, starting at 6:45am.

Teacher Office Hours – Teachers may offer office hours before or after school to provide students with additional academic support. Office hours are a great opportunity to ask questions and get individualized assistance with assignments and projects. Each teacher’s availability varies, and students and parents should reach out to the specific subject teacher to inquire about scheduling and availability.
